4 Reasons You Don’t Have Good Hair (and How To Fix It!) [2023]

Many of us have trouble figuring out how to have good hair because that can mean a very different thing to various people. Our hair types and the treatment we need is varied and sometimes it can be really difficult to figure out exactly what works for your hair type.

Moreover, we tend to overlook the fact that hair care is not just about what we have on top of our heads! Having good hair means that first and foremost we are healthy! And health starts on the inside.

So, let’s see what we can do on the outside and the inside to have good hair days all year round!

#1 Haircare Not For Your Hair Type

Depending on what type of hair you have, you will need a different shampoo and treatment to make sure your hair looks as good as possible.

So, the first thing you need to do in order to find a good hair care routine is to identify what type of hair you have!

In order to do this, take a look at your hair’s texture: is it naturally straight, wavy, curly, or in tight curls? Just the texture of your hair requires a different type of care!

Straight and Fine Hair

So, if your hair is very straight and fine, make sure to wash it frequently! Straight hair gets greasy much faster, so it’s a good idea to wash it daily or at least every other day to make sure it’s nice and clean.

If you can’t wash it every day, dry shampoo might help you gain back some of the volume and soak up the excess oils in greasier spots.

Wavy Hair

If you have wavy hair, it might have a tendency to frizz, which is a rather annoying predicament. Frizz is a sign of dryness, so you should try to find a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner which will help keep your hair shiny, reduce frizzing and even help you keep your waves!

If you still experience frizzing, including a once-a-week moisturizing hair mask sounds like a good idea to us!

Curly Hair

And, if your hair is curly, you need to focus on keeping the moisture in your hair! While straight hair gets greasy quickly, curly hair does the opposite, it can become dry and frizzy, so a moisturizing, hydrating shampoo and conditioner is a must!

We recommend experimenting with products such as hair jellies, mousse, or hair oils to help preserve moisture in your hair and to even help shape and define your hairstyle!

Which hair type is yours? Have you been taking care of your strands the right way?

#2 Harmful Daily Habits

We believe that the first step to good hair is to have a lifestyle that is healthy for you! Your hair is part of your body, so if you’re not doing so well, the first thing you see affected is your hair.

It’s not a requirement for survival, so the first thing the body does in times of sickness and stress is to shut down any unnecessary energy-consuming processes, such as growing hair.

So, if you’re constantly stressed and your body is struggling to keep up with it, you’ll notice your hair losing shine, it will start shedding more, etc.

Similarly, if your diet and lifestyle are harmful, your hair will suffer! Habits such as smoking cigarettes have a negative effect on your hair too!

Evaluate your current daily habits🤔 What might be the habits you're doing that are contributing to your hair challenges?

#3 Lack Of Holistic Haircare

If you think that holistic haircare is only about homemade hair masks or not exposing your hair to harmful ingredients you're missing out on a huge aspect of your hair health.

For example, brittle, dry hair that splits easily at the ends can be caused by the lack of protein in your diet!

Our first reaction is to dunk our hair in oils, which helps a little, but it won’t fix the way your hair grows!

For that, you will need to improve your diet🥗 👇 It’s important to have the nutrients our body needs for that shiny, voluminous hair. Vitamins and minerals such as iron, vitamin C, vitamin A, omega-3 and zinc are all here to boost your hair growth and help your locks become stronger, fuller, and prettier.

Make sure to eat a balanced diet so you get enough of those. And if for whatever reason you can't get these nutrients through your food, find out which ones you're lacking and look for an appropriate supplement.

All of these little steps towards a healthy body will help your hair grow! And don’t forget about the mind! Try to reduce stress, do relaxing activities, and do not sacrifice sleep!

#4 Incorrect Usage Of The Products

There are so many hair care products on the market! Sometimes it can feel overwhelming trying to pick out the right one for ourselves. Especially if it’s hard to identify exactly what’s wrong with our hair.

So, if you feel like your treatment just doesn’t give you the results you’ve been dreaming of, it’s time to take a look at the labels! Are you using the product the way it was recommended?

Many hair treatments require you to keep the product on your scalp for a good few minutes, some products need to be massaged into the scalp, etc. In some cases, we’re just not using the right product!

Also, some products just don’t work well together, which means that no matter how much you use of them, they’ll end up working against one another🤷‍♀️

Or, in some cases, dyed or bleached hair just doesn’t have the same requirements as your natural hair used to. Your anti-dandruff shampoo may dry out your scalp but using coconut oil to counter it might turn your hair too greasy!

What the products are required for matters, and so does the way your body reacts! We are all different so it is important to keep in mind that what worked for Sally, may not work for Joanne!
